S4-09 - The mind-body connection
In this episode, Rod and Lesley talk more about reframing examples - this time exploring the interconnection between the mind - the brain - and the body. You know when you are thinking about something, all of a sudden you starting seeing examples of it everywhere? Well, this is what is happening with our podcast duo. They share personal experience on how changing how you think about what is happening to you (in mind and body), changes how your mind and body react. Slightly confused? When you listen, all will be revealed.

S4-08 - Reframing (Part 2)
Wednesday Apr 24, 2024
Wednesday Apr 24, 2024
In this episode, Rod and Lesley come back to the topic of reframing and talk about how important it is. Rod suggests that it is so powerful, the skill should be part of school curriculum (are you listening people who shape school curriculum!). Lesley nicely ties it into how we can use reframing in our individual change journeys - take the perspective to think about what we should un-become, instead of what we should become.
"Maybe the journey isn't so much about becoming anything. Maybe it's about un-becoming everything that isn't really you, so you can be who you were meant to be in the first place". Paulo Coelho.

S4-06 - Reframing is a powerful cosmic force (Part 1)
Wednesday Mar 27, 2024
Wednesday Mar 27, 2024
In this episode, Rod and Lesley bring in the powerful concept of reframing as they build on the previous episodes this season which talked about emotions and how the universe is all about change. They consider the quantum theory concept we heard about the importance of movement, action, and becoming; in relation to expressing emotions. If we have learned anything, the universe is better at describing things when they interact - and thus the message is, get better at allowing express emotions to be in an interaction state versus a static being state. The reframing concept is so big that it will cover a couple of episodes as they move through the implications of perspective (or is it that the concept of reframing and perspective is moving through your trusted podcasters?)

S4-05 - To be one with the Universe is to change (Part 2)
Wednesday Mar 20, 2024
Wednesday Mar 20, 2024
In this episode, Rod and Lesley continue their discussion inspired by theoretical physicist Carol Rovelli (wiki bio). The revelation is that the 'grammar of thinking about the world is change, not of permanence. Not of being but of becoming. The world is not a collection of things; it is a collection of events" (C Rovelli). For these two podcasters about change, and helping people understand change - mind blow sound effect.
Discussion ensues around coming to grips with the idea that the physics of the universe and time is aligned with human need to evolve and change.
Production note - the audio is a little different this time due to Rod's recording studio. You will also hear at times some sound interference, which is a dog licking the microphone - as they are want to do.

S4-04 - Time to change your view of time (Part 1)
Wednesday Mar 06, 2024
Wednesday Mar 06, 2024
In this episode, Rod and Lesley dive into the realm of quantum physics and seek to understand the concept of time. Yes, this does relate to understanding change. Rod and Lesley are reading/listening to a book by Carlo Rovelli called 'The Order of Time'. Carlo is a 'specialist in quantum gravity theory' and does a good job of explaining some big brain ideas (via a translation from Italian). You can hear in this discussion that our two fearless podcasters are cautiously relating an introductory understand and exploring their interpretations as they make sense of the concepts. This will be a multi part series as there is much to get through. It is deep stuff but ultimately important to help us understand how we experience change.

S4-03 - More on learning about yourself through learning about your emotional side
Wednesday Feb 21, 2024
Wednesday Feb 21, 2024
In this episode, Rod and Lesley take care of some unfinished business. Last week's discussion on emotions wasn't quite complete, and then the superbowl happened, giving a great example of emotions on display. No, this isn't some click bait reference to Rod's favourite power pop/football couple. (notice no names are mentioned in the episode title). For anyone who was watching the big game, uncle Travy had a little angry outburst towards his coach, that was then dissected in detail on sports shows, and memes, and then on his podcast with the king of Philly, brother Jason.
And in this high profile bro Kelce deep dive into the sharing of emotions, we find the point that Rod and Lesley are trying to make. It is a nuanced one, so you might want to listen to this episode a few times to catch it. When you do, you'll see that our emotional sides are key to finding who we are as individuals and (like many things), advice for one person might be the exact opposite advice to another. The point is to explore what matters to you, and do it with others to help you have perspective.

S4-02 - More on how we've changed - learning how to be with our emotions
Wednesday Feb 14, 2024
Wednesday Feb 14, 2024
In this episode, Rod and Lesley continue the conversation about what they've learned over the past year. This time it is more about what Rod learned about how he can be emotional. This type of self discovery (and acceptance) doesn't come by accident as you'll here. It involves getting into the shadow and self reflection ask why am I feeling this way.
As we are now in season four, we have the unique opportunity to see how Rod has changed on this topic because back in Season 1, these two debated the influence of the Rider (Spock) versus the Elephant (emotions). Check it out for yourself to see. https://thechangeroomwithrodandlesley.podbean.com/e/ep50-spock-vs-emotions-the-controversy-continues/
Lesley refers to Brené Brown's atlas of emotions. Link here https://brenebrown.com/resources/atlas-of-the-heart-list-of-emotions/

S4-01 - Did you miss us?
Wednesday Feb 07, 2024
Wednesday Feb 07, 2024
In this episode, Rod and Lesley return! Contrary to news otherwise, the podcast is not retired in the sunset of being a covid era hobby. They are back after almost eight months off and ready to talk once again about Change. As they get back to it, you hear the rust that needs to be worked through in Rod's dry monotone voice and you’ll smile as you’re reminded of the freshness of Lesley's trusty energy! These two talk a little about what has gone on over the past year, and what it is like to change from change.

S3-11 - The importance of having friends to talk to....(A love letter to Ted Lasso)
Wednesday Jun 14, 2023
Wednesday Jun 14, 2023
In this episode, Rod and Lesley dive into the importance of having close friends to talk to - at work. To drive home the point, they use the popular Apple TV+ show Ted Lasso as their case study. Rod starts by stating his theory, that the TV show eerily mirror this Podcast. Ted Lasso started in August 2020, the Change Room Podcast started recording in August 2020 (with first airing in October). Story lines and topics parallel on the way so highlight just how we care about the same themes.
In the end, this episode is also Rod and Lesley's love letter of appreciation for Ted Lasso, and all the good it conveyed, especially the importance of having trusted friends that you can talk to when you need to get out of your own head.
